Questions, answered.
For you.
What is VirtuALL?
An ID wallet. Add your ID and documents once, share information and documents securely when someone asks for them, and get paid through your own pay page.
How does sharing work?
A request shows who is asking, why, and which details they want. Every detail starts ticked. Untick what you want to keep, or send a supported proof instead, then approve. You see exactly what the recipient will receive before you say yes.
What is a proof?
A proof answers a question without sending the detail behind it. It can confirm you are 18 or older without your date of birth, or confirm your province instead of your street address.
Which documents can I add?
Your South African ID and proof of address, which are checked so the details can be reused when you share. Adding a document does not always create a reusable credential straight away. See the plans page for what each plan includes.
Is VirtuALL the same as MyMzansi or the South African government digital ID?
No. MyMzansi is the Department of Home Affairs digital identity service. VirtuALL is a private app. Credentials in VirtuALL are issued by VirtuALL, not by Home Affairs.
Where are my documents processed?
Documents you add are processed on VirtuALL servers so they can be validated. Details read from them are stored encrypted, and access to stored documents is restricted.
Can I take back access after I share?
You can stop future access through VirtuALL. This cannot remove information a recipient has already downloaded or kept.
How does Pay work?
Pay gives you a pay page at your own handle, such as virtuall.co.za/@johndoe. Whoever opens it sees your validated name, and can pay by card, EFT or a payment app without a VirtuALL account of their own. Your ID number, phone number and bank details never appear on the page. Anyone can pay you without signing up, up to R3,000, and you can invite people to join so you can pay them too.
Can I sign up now?
VirtuALL is launching soon. Join the waitlist and we will let you know when you can create your account.
VirtuALL Verify.
What is VirtuALL Verify?
A KYC and identity verification service. You request the checks your process needs, the customer completes them in the VirtuALL app, and the result comes back to your system.
Which checks can we request?
You can request ID verification; liveness and face match; home Affairs ID and photo check; proof of address; sanctions, PEP and adverse media; company checks; bank account verification; and yes or no answers.
What if the customer is already verified?
They can share their existing result instead of starting again, as long as it covers what you asked for and is still valid.
How does the result reach our system?
Through our API. You start a request from your system, and the result and a record of the request are returned by webhook. We share integration details during onboarding.
Does the customer need the VirtuALL app?
Yes. The customer reviews the request and completes any checks in the VirtuALL app.
Is shared information the same as an official check?
No. Shared information is what the customer approved. Where your process needs an official status check, the request says so and the customer consents before it runs.
Does VirtuALL take over our compliance obligations?
No. VirtuALL runs the checks and keeps a record of each request. Your own legal and compliance obligations still apply.
What does each check do?
ID verification: Reads the smart ID card, green ID book, passport or driver’s licence, checks the barcode or passport code, the ID number and date of birth, and matches the name. Liveness and face match: A short live face check confirms the person is there, then matches them to their ID photo. Home Affairs ID and photo check: Confirms the ID number and photo with Home Affairs, after the customer consents. Proof of address: Reads a recent bill, account, lease or bank letter and checks the date, the name and the address. Sanctions, PEP and adverse media: Screens the customer against sanctions, politically exposed person and adverse media sources. Company checks: Looks up the company on CIPC, with its directors. Bank account verification: Confirms the bank account belongs to the customer. Yes or no answers: Confirm a fact, such as the customer being 18 or older, without receiving the detail behind it.
Can we run a check without asking the customer?
Yes, where your process allows it. Direct lookups run identity and company checks straight from your system, without a step in the customer’s app.
Is there a dashboard?
Yes. The VirtuALL Verify dashboard shows your checks, your quotes and a printable verification certificate for each customer.
What does it cost?
Pricing depends on the checks you run. Reusing a customer’s existing verification costs less than a fresh check. Request a demo for a quote.
Is there a record of each check?
Yes. Each request keeps its purpose, the checks run, the customer’s consent and the outcome, so you can show why you hold a detail.
What standards is VirtuALL built on?
Credentials held by the person: Each credential is bound to its holder, and every presentation carries a fresh proof, so someone else cannot replay it. Selective disclosure: The customer approves field by field. What they leave out is never sent to you. Verifiable credential formats: Moving to SD-JWT VC under the EU HAIP profile, with mdoc for ID and licence credentials. Open issuance and presentation: OpenID4VCI for issuing and OpenID4VP for presentation, so other wallets and verifiers can take part. Proofs that answer without revealing: Predicate proofs, such as 18 or older, aligned to the EU mdoc-ZK work rather than a scheme of our own. Standards-based revocation: Credential status published as an IETF Token Status List.
