Regulatory Framework

POPIA Compliance

Protection of Personal Information Act

1. Overview

Virtuall is committed to the Protection of Personal Information Act (POPIA) of South Africa. Virtuall is designed to meet and exceed the eight conditions for lawful processing of personal information.

2. Accountability

As the provider of a digital identity service, we are accountable for how we process your information, including the documents you add and the information you choose to share.

3. Processing Limitation

We process personal information for the purposes you have agreed to, such as your waitlist email or validating documents you add. When someone requests information, you review the request, and the recipient receives only what you approve.

4. Information Quality

We validate supported documents and show their status in My ID. You are responsible for adding accurate, genuine documents.

5. Security Safeguards

We implement strict security measures to protect against unauthorized access, including:

  • Restricted access to stored documents, with document details stored encrypted.
  • Letting you review each request and share only what you choose.
  • Live face checks where required, to confirm it is really you.

6. Data Subject Participation

POPIA grants you the right to access and correct your information. You can see your documents and sharing activity in the Virtuall app, or contact privacy@virtuall.co.za.
